A total of 7 models will be launched by Opel in Europe in 2017. One of Opel’s flagship models is the second generation of the successful Opel Insignia, which can boast with cutting-edge technology, advanced multimedia systems, new engine and body parameters with aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.26.

It will be offered in three body styles: a five-door hatchback with Grand Sport, a classic Sports Tourer estate or a Country Tourer for off-road driving with all-wheel drive.

The makers of the new Insignia have used an all-new platform to build the car, which will make it up to 175kg lighter, 29mm lower and five centimetres longer. The improved driving characteristics are undeniably aided by the increased wheelbase of 92 millimetres.

Specifications

As we’ve already mentioned, the new model has been designed to provide better handling and agility at higher speeds both in the city and off-road. This is also aided by the advanced FlexRide adaptive chassis with adjustable stiffness suspension dampers that are able to adapt the character of the road and driving conditions 500 times per second, or 30,000 times per minute. Each driver has the option to tailor the car’s behaviour by activating Standart, Tour or Sport mode, depending on whether they prefer comfort, fuel efficiency or sporty driving.

Opel offers a 121kW 1.5 Turbo petrol engine, an improved 2.0 Tubro or a revised 2.0 CDTi . All meet the most stringent emissions standards, with more power and lower fuel consumption. The engines will be combined with manual transmissions or Aisin’s new eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive with an electrically operated multiplate clutch instead of a rear differential and torque vectoring function to each wheel will be available.

Variants

As we mentioned, the new Insignia is being prepared in three body styles – a five-door liftback with Grand Sport badging, a classic Sports Tourer estate and a Country Tourer created for off-road driving with 4×4 drive technology.

Opel Insignia Grand SportThe new Opel flagship features an all-new architecture that offers the crew a very spacious interior, an athletic-looking exterior and superior aerodynamics. Thanks to the car’s space layout and the use of lightweight materials, the overall weight of the car has been reduced by up to 175 kilograms. Opel also promises that the model will be characterized by clean lines, pleasant surfaces and first-class craftsmanship, both outside and inside the car. Also impressive is the boot capacity, which ranges from 490 to 1,450 litres.

The Grand Sport is also to be equipped with award-winning technology and assistance systems, most notably Lane Keep Assist, a 360-degree camera system, Rear Cross Traffic Alert parking assistance and adaptive cruise control. This model is also equipped with premium front seats with AGR Healthy Back Certification and, of course, heated rear seats or an electrically heated windscreen.

• 81 kW (110 hp), consumption: city 4.6 l/100 km, out of town 3.6 l/100 km, combined 4.0 l/100 km; CO2 emissions: 105 g/km
• 100 kW (136 hp), consumption: city 5.1 l/100 km, out of town 3.9 l/100 km, combined 4.3 l/100 km; CO2 emissions: 114 g/km

Four-cylinder turbodiesel 2.0 CDTI:

• 125 kW (170 hp), consumption: city 6.7 l/100 km, out of town 4.3 l/100 km, combined 5.2 l/100 km; CO2 emissions: 136 g/km

Price and sales start

The Opel Insignia Grand Sport will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. It will appear on the domestic market in early June 2017. Full Czech pricing for the new generation Insignia model range will be available at the launch of sales in late February.

Opel Insignia Sports TourerThe new Sports Tourer will be a spacious coupe with a comfortable interior, exemplary safety features and a huge boot space that surpasses its predecessor by a full 100 litres, offering up to 1,640 litres.

Maximum comfort is ensured by the optional ergonomic AGR (Campaign for a Healthy Back) certified seats, which have massage function, ventilation and memory settings. You’ll also enjoy the automatic opening of the luggage compartment controlled by a motion sensor. A single movement of the foot under the rear bumper opens the boot door.

Convenience and safety are ensured by technologies including the innovative Opel IntelliLux LED headlights, advanced driver assistance systems (Lane Keep Assist, 360° camera system, Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, Park Assist), IntelliLink connectivity systems for linking the system to your smartphone and the Opel OnStar telematics system with a range of functions from accident call to locating a stolen car. This model is the first car with an active bonnet. In the event of a collision with a pedestrian, the car automatically raises the bonnet, reducing the risk of injury to the pedestrian. A large panoramic sunroof ensures perfect contact with the surroundings.

Opel Insignia Country Tourer

The Country Tourer will look like an adventure Sports Tourer estate, but will be equipped with all-wheel drive and a specific “off-road” look. It will be designed especially for winter sports fans, outdoor sports enthusiasts and all customers that appreciate a distinctive look.
