The 2008 compact crossover is one of Peugeot’s most successful models. After four years on the market, during which nearly 700,000 units were produced, the Peugeot 2008 crossover is undergoing a facelift. A longer range, a more avant-garde design, a more ergonomic cockpit or an enhanced electric drive are the main attributes of the new Peugeot 2008 2024. Unlike many other cases, however, this model retains both petrol and diesel engines.
Launched at the end of 2019, with almost 700,000 units already produced, the Peugeot 2008 has always been on the podium when it comes to B-segment SUV sales in Europe. In 2021, it even took the top spot. The new generation went on sale in the European market in summer 2023 and the range includes three trim levels – Active, Allure, GT – and four engine options, including a new 115 kW/156 hp 100% electric engine with a range of up to 406 km. In 2024, the range will be extended with an all-new hybrid engine.
What Peugeot 2008 2024 reviews agree on
Fresh and modern design
The Peugeot 2008 has evolved from an ordinary small estate car, but the current generation has added a longer wheelbase, flared fenders with much larger wheels. To the eye, it looks as adventurous as its relative the Jeep Avenger. The 2008 compact lion is presented with a rejuvenated character that follows the trends shown on the facelifted flagship 508.
The Peugeot 2008 is the next model to use Peugeot’s new light signature after the 508 fastback and 508 SW. It consists of three vertical light claws, which on the new Peugeot 2008 are incorporated into the gloss black bumper mouldings. And the new LED tail lights on the 2008 model now offer the symbolic three claws, by which Peugeot cars can be clearly identified from behind.
Selenium grey has been chosen as the launch colour for the car. Another new colour on offer is white Okenite. The GT version comes with a black roof as standard. All new cars have black rear-view mirrors regardless of the body colour chosen.
The interior: new materials, larger screen
All versions of the new 2008 model get new seat upholstery, which also moves the model into a higher product category. On the GT version, Alcantara is now offered at an extra cost. They also now come standard with a 10-inch central touchscreen. This allows control of radio and telephone functions (Active version) or the latest generation of infotainment systems. On the Allure and GT versions, the central display is equipped with HD technology.
The instrument cluster of the new 2008 model is digital on the Allure and GT versions. Its 10-inch display has been redesigned, and on the GT it also offers a 3D display. The colour of the display, or the priority and arrangement of information, can be fully customised to the driver’s preferences. The Peugeot 2008 Active version retains the analogue instrument panel.
The compact steering wheel, which is a characteristic element of the Peugeot i-Cockpit system, enhances the driving experience thanks to its unique agility and precision of movement. The steering wheel houses the controls for the multimedia system, volume and voice control. The interior of the new 2008 GT offers ambient lighting that can be customised in eight shades.
The 434-liter trunk is adequate by family car standards. Unfortunately, the electric version tested sacrificed the battery and electronics for a spare wheel.
The ride is comfortable, but not perfect
For better traction, the new Peugeot 2008 is equipped with Grip Control, which gives access to three driving modes: sand, mud and snow.
The accelerator pedal calibration has also received a welcome refinement. Whereas previously the powerful front-axle engine would needlessly exercise the car at every traffic light, now it takes off in a completely relaxed manner until you deliberately slam the pedal into the floor.
Peugeot has also worked on soundproofing the wheels, which in a quiet electric drive are the main source of cabin noise. It works brilliantly, right up until the moment the car hits a major bump. That tells you that the wheel travel is too short and sometimes the whole car jumps.
