Peugeot 208 2024

Europe’s best-selling car in 2022 and 2021 is getting a stylish facelift. The Peugeot 208 2024 builds on the recent revamp of its bigger sibling, the 2008, and arrives with updated styling, more modern technology, improved equipment and a new 48-volt mild-hybrid to replace the previous pure combustion top-of-the-range powertrain.

The current generation Peugeot 208 was first introduced four years ago. Since then, the brand’s smallest model has become a European bestseller. In 2021 and 2022, it won the title of best-selling car on the old continent. The compact hatchback has been purchased by 206 816 drivers, who may now regret not waiting for the just-released upgraded version.

What Peugeot 208 2024 reviews agree on

  • Attractive design
  • Strong electric engines
  • Fast charging and usable range
  • Nice interior
  • Rear legroom
  • Ride not that comfortable
  • Confusing infotainment

Aggressive and expressive design

You can easily recognise the modernised Peugeot 208 on our roads at a glance, as the former “lion’s teeth” have now been replaced by “lion’s claws”. The distinctive vertical LED daytime running lights, one of the most important signature elements of the brand’s latest models, have three light strips instead of one. Also new is the improved radiator grille, which visually forms a single unit with the bumper.

Exterior transformed, cabin remains the same

The rejuvenated Peugeot boasts several new features. At first glance, the change to the exterior is obvious. This includes a redesigned front fascia with revised headlights, complemented by a new daytime running light signature with three vertical “claws”.

The grille now has a different pattern and comes with body-color accents to blend in with the bumper. This new face was originally introduced on the 9×8 endurance racing car, then the redesigned 508 sedan and wagon received the new styling.

Minor differences can also be found at the rear, where French engineers have also played with the shape of the lights. The keen eye will notice the new design of the cast wheels, which can be 16 or 17 inches.

The interior retains its architecture with a small steering wheel and display above it, with few changes inside. Going forward, all trim levels get a 10-inch center touchscreen as standard equipment, while the same-size digital instrument cluster gets a new design plus a 3D effect on the GT model. The base Active version still has analog dials flanking the 3.5-inch display. The phone’s wireless charging is more powerful, and the parking cameras get a much-needed boost in resolution.

Wider range of motorisation

The Peugeot 208 will be available with several powertrains. The proven 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine with 55 or 74 kW of power, which can be mated to a manual gearbox, forms the basis. The mild-hybrid versions of these powertrains are completely new. These are designated Hybrid 48V and, thanks to electric power, can squeeze 74 or even 100 kW out of themselves. The electrified 12-cylinders then work primarily with the new 6-speed e-DCS6 automatic transmission.

The all-electric E-208 variant has undergone minor improvements. It is powered by a 115 kW electric motor, which draws power from a 51 kWh battery pack. The carmaker claims that it can travel up to 400 kilometres on a poison battery and can be recharged from 20 to 80 per cent in less than 30 minutes (with a maximum charging power of 100 kW).

Decent standard equipment

The new Peugeot 208 range includes three trim levels – Active, Allure and GT. The first-named specification already includes decent standard equipment. This includes, for example, LED daytime running lights front and rear, manual air conditioning, electric windows, electrically operated rear-view mirrors, a new 10-inch touchscreen and a front USB-C socket.
