No more boring design

The body shapes are inherently very simple, yet perfectly aligned. The elaborate details of the front end are linked to the knife-edge headlights. The shape of these is emphasised by the LED daytime running lights. When viewed from the side, the short body overhang at the front but quite long at the rear catches the eye. The roof silhouette lowers slightly at the rear and is topped by a massive wing.

The interior plays on luxury

Soft plastics and quality leather give the impression of a high-end car. The workmanship itself is of above-average quality, the chosen materials are pleasant to the touch and the overall impression of the interior is solid.

The information system is familiar from all Toyotas with all its pluses and minuses. Among the analog-looking gauges is a display that can show you virtually anything in several different graphic layouts.

There’s plenty of side and legroom everywhere, except for the headroom, where taller individuals may have a problem with the panoramic roof frame. The boot has a basic volume of a respectable 581 litres.

Toyota Corolla Hybrid is both economical and powerful

You can only drive a few kilometres on electric power, and at a very slow pace. It is not a plug-in hybrid, but a conventional hybrid. The battery is recharged by the engine during recuperation, to then use the electric drive in the slow traffic of city traffic jams, where the combustion engine is practically out of the question.

Toyota’s new two-litre version of the hybrid powertrain is much more nimble than the old 1.8. And it’s especially noticeable outside the city.

Although the engine is a little noisy during hard acceleration, the hybrid can handle faster overtaking. Although it’s not a common practice with a hybrid, this one can handle a different kind of driving than just fuel efficient.

But fuel efficient it is – even with fast driving, you can barely get above 5 litres per 100 kilometres.

A hybrid that makes sense

It’s an everyday hybrid that can go fast and slow, in and out of town, doesn’t cost dramatically more than conventional internal combustion cars, and doesn’t make its hybrid powertrain obvious. So the new generation Corolla has made its return to our market with our applause, and will stand up to direct comparison with its established fuel competitors.

Pricing for the hybrid Corollas starts at around €23,800 for the weaker 122bhp 1.8 Hybrid with basic Active trim. The more powerful 2.0 Hybrid means at least the Comfort trim which starts at €24,800.
